Rory Gallagher
This page is dedicated to
the memory of the greatest guitar player of all time...
His name is Rory
Gallagher and I am proud and priveleged to have known him.
Hi, my name is George and
I'm into music, guitar-playing, electronics,computing, and almost
anything of a scientific nature will be of interest to me. So if
you like the same things as me, then get in touch with me and we
can share our interests and perhaps learn from one another. My all
time guitar hero is Rory Gallagher and you'll pardon me if I go
on a bit about him as he is sadly no longer with us. Rory passed
away on 14th June '95 at the age of 47. He died from
complications which set in during a liver transplant. Rory was
born in Donegal in Ireland, but moved to Cork when he was very
young. He started playing Guitar when he was only 13 years old
and bought the first Fender Stratocaster guitar ever to be found
in Ireland. He started playing skiffle at first and used to be a
fan of Lonnie Donegan! Around the mid-sixties, he formed a
3-piece band called Taste, and the music they produced at that
time was brilliant. Taste didn't last too long though and Rory
went on to play under the title of the Rory Gallagher Band. His
best line-up in that band in my opinion was Gerry McAvoy on Bass,
Ted McKenna on Drums and the man himself on Guitar, Vocals,
Harmonica, Mandolin...'You name it! Rory was a truly amazing and
unique talent playing the blues the way it was meant to be played
and he always kept referring us back to the old black blues
musicians such as Sonny Boy Williams, Blind Boy Fuller and many
more of the greats who were responsible for first 'setting the
blues in motion'. He was once asked to become a member of the
Rolling Stones, but thankfully he turned that offer down. Don't
take that the wrong way if you're a Stones fan....'I like the
Stones as well, but we would never have had the chance to hear
Rory's music develop in the way that it did had he accepted this
offer.
Rory Gallagher....'My hero....'my tribute :-
This guy was the most amazing guitar player to
ever grace a stage, and I had the privilege of seeing him play
many, many times over a period of app 30 years. For the
uninitiated, Rory is no longer with us as he passed away a little
while back. He may be gone, but his music will live forever. I
never felt more alive than I did when I was at a Rory Gallagher
concert. His music was vibrant, aggressive, moody at times, but
always excellent both to listen to and to watch. He was a
talented showman as well as a gifted musician and unlike so many
of the untalented pretentious 'noise-mongers' who pass themselves
off as musicians today, he was a true gentleman, a warm and
loving human being who remained true to his music, his fans, and
to himself for his whole, shining career. He was a star among
stars, yet at times a very shy individual who was always aware of
his God-given talents and he always displayed a humility that is
just not seen today in any blues/rock guitarist. Thank you Rory
for all of the wonderful memories you have given to so many of
your fans. We miss you. So dear friend I hope that God has
blessed you with the kind of after-life that you deserve for all
of the pleasure you have worked so hard for in your lifetime to
give to so many people whose lives have been enriched by your
wonderful music. Rest In Peace...'I will never forget you.(George
Blades).
{A big Hi and

A
Picture Of Rory Gallagher :-

I would like to
hear from anyone, but in particular any Rory Gallagher fans who
would like to share information about him.

Okay then, on to another subject for a
while....'Delphi...'as in Pascal programming. Do you know how to
program in Pascal? Well if you do, get in touch as it's my
favourite language of all and I'm always ready to exchange tips
or code written in this language, and I should say that I am a
big lover of Borland's products, from their early MS-Dos
compilers and Debuggers right up to their present
state-of-the-art programming platforms for Win95 and 'the likes'.
Anyone who has any unwanted books or magazines can feel free to

look after them well!
Alright, so I'm a

have any queries regarding Electronics, Maths,
Computers/Computing or related subjects (Yes, all you students!),
then let's compare notes and see what comes up. I am ready, able

but not willing to pay ridiculous prices? Then look no further
than Barnes & Noble as they are the biggest and best suppliers
of books in the world! They also have an amazing software
range at the best possible prices you will find anywhere!

There are many other
musicians whom I respect greatly, and among these are such names
as.... Maria McKee, Tori Amos, Heather Nova, Alanis Morissette,
Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco....'and others. One thing I should say about ALL of the musicians pictured here...'they all have one thing in common, and that is quite simply that I have seen them all play live in concert...'that's why they are shown! I have a VERY deep love
of the music of Steve Forbert and I listen to him a lot...'Steve and I go back a long way....'this
is class-music (Give him a listen!).
Here's a picture of Steve
from the Album 'Alive On Arrival'...'It's Brilliant!!.....

George's Girls....'just some of my (gorgeous) favourite females :-
If you only ever go to one concert in your whole life, make it a Tori Amos gig! She is the most wonderfully talented female musician I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. She has so much passion for music it is infectious. Tori takes me to heaven and back with her genius! :-

What can I say about this lady?...'mad, demonic, frightening even? She can touch the deepest part of your spirit as she takes you from orgies of insanity to beautiful ballads....'the magical Maria McKee :-

One lady who has a VERY sensual style of music is Heather Nova.
She is a stunning performer, though apparently not so well known in Britain..'strange, as she has some very rare talents! I simply love Heather's music.
I took this pic of Heather doing the biz (in her unique way) at the 'Venue' in Edinburgh, Jan, '99. :-
{Click on the photo to enlarge....}

The ultimate 'Rawk-Chick'?....'the awesome power of...'Alanis Morissette :-
(Looks pretty tame here though?....'wait until the gig!!)

One of the great singer-songwriters and a great performer as well...'Sheryl Crow :-

She doesn't sing....'but Catherine Zeta Jones is so beautiful....'and Sexy!
(Ooh Catherine, call me)...'I want to have your
babies! :-)
